Building an Environmental Movement in a Time of Crisis

Abstract

What is needed at this time is a broadly constructed, unified national environmental opposition movement. Such a movement needs to serve as a vehicle for coordinating strategic lobbying, organizing mass mobilizations, unifying resistances, synchronizing and supporting campaigns and encouraging state, local and regional actions and initiatives. It can grow out of the thousands of existing advocacy organizations witthout redirecting or compromizing them and it can link, if not unite, dedicated people across the social, racial and economic lines that have divided us.

Environmental Policy: What to Expect; What to Do
       

Abstract

The year 2017 opens with much that is uncertain and much that is troubling. The slow, halting and often disappointing progress that has marked the past 45 years of national environmental policy will be shifting, ceratianly modestly, and possibly dramatically. The rospects for the future of federal programs appears grave. What is needed now is what has been needed for some time: a large scale, robust and inclusive national environmental movement.  There are millions of Americans who could be tapped to resist this new administration, fight for new initiatives,and build a broad (mass) based movement.  Opposition forms a basis for unity. Power lies in unified responses and large scale mobilization
